Converting Packages

Selecting Packages to Convert

The first step in the conversion process is to select the package file or files you want to convert (package files have the extension .dtsx). To do this, simply click the Add button and browse to the location of your packages and add them. You can select multiple packages.

Selecting the Destination

It is advisable to select a different folder for the converted packages. By doing this, you will preserve your SSIS 2014 packages. To select the destination folder, simply click the Select button and browse to your desired folder.

Starting the Conversion

To start the conversion, simply click the Downgrade Packages button and the downgrade process will start. If you haven't selected packages to convert or a destination folder for the converted packages, you will be told this and the downgrade process will be aborted.

During the downgrade process, the Downgrade Status is updated showing the progress of the downgrades. The status shows which parts of the 2014 package have been successfully downgraded and which parts could not be downgraded.

Modifying the Mapping XML Files

Downgrading works by remapping ElementTypes and ComponentID's. The application works by using two XML mapping files, these are called ElementTypeMaps.xml and ComponentTypeMaps.xml. Whilst every effort has been made to capture all Element Types and Components that need remapping, some may be missing. Should any be missing or found to be incorrect, these XML files can be modified.

ElementTypeMaps.xml

You will see that this file has two element types, <OldType> and <NewType>. <OldType> contains the element type required for SSIS 2012 and <NewType> contains the corresponding SSIS 2014 element type. Additional element types can be added to this file by using the following XML layout:

<ElementType>
<OldType> the SSIS 2012 element type <OldType>
<NewType> the SSIS 2014 element type <NewType>
</ElementType>

ComponentTypeMaps.xml

You will see that this file has two element types, <ComponentName> and <ComponentGUID>. <ComponentGUID> contains the component GUID required for SSIS 2012 and <ComponentName> contains the corresponding SSIS 2014 component type. Additional component types can be added to this file by using the following XML layout:

<ComponentType>
<ComponentName> the SSIS 2014 component name </ComponentName>
<ComponentGUID> the SSIS 2012 component GUID </ComponentGUID>
</ComponentType>
